Reverting is ok by me, I don't think the change was made to fix any
particular problem. It was a cleanup.
I think this should be considered a autoreconf bug and reported
though. Is it really safe to avoid to regenerate in sub-directories?
If so, perhaps autoreconf should have a --no-recursion or similar?
