I've never approached rms about adding to the command lists, but it
seems reasonable to suppose that he would want a justification for each
one, ie, why the job can't be reasonably accomplished with the programs
already in the list.  You already wrote that justification for awk.  If
there is a good justification and a practical need for a given program,
I don't see any a priori reason why he'd reject it.

Personally, since we're already listing some of the programs from
coreutils, I don't really see a lot of practical issues arising from
adding any others.  Or am I missing something?

    make-stds.texi is the fact that there are two lists of tools: 

I'll need to look at this over the weekend before I can say anything
semi-coherent.
