Umm, where exactly would you like to see this documented?
Maybe a little note in the manual like:
NOTE: recent versions of Automake do not call aclocal
anymore. Autoreconf does. So if you dont use the autoreconf utility
you should call aclocal with -I m4 in order to get access to the
gnulib m4 macros.
But you are right. Maybe it doesnt take the effort, since developers
should know that.
