Yes, it would, provided that we translate fnmatch patterns to regexps.

> EXCLUDE_ANCHORED on: 'a?b' -> '^a.b$'

There is also FNM_LEADING_DIR, which translates to
'a?b' -> '^a.b/.*'

That is exactly the main obstacle :)
