I have seen regexp replaced on the then current fedora.
I find this attitude of "non-GNU systems are obsolete and we include
almost the whole gnu libc with each and every piece of software built
for them" to be very unfortunate.

here is what I pass with --avoid:

no-c++ stdint stdbool havelib gettext localcharset
uniwidth/width streq uniname/uniname unitypes link-follow
nocrash libsigsegv gnu-make gettimeofday getpagesize sys_time
alloca-opt alloca extensions include_next verify string
mbsinit wchar wctype mbrtowc mbsrtowcs memmove memcmp memchr nl_langinfo

I think it would be nice if gnulib-tool did this factoring automatically.
