     Both coreutils and bison already use gnulib in this manner; they have to
     do some post-processing of the output of gnulib-tool to make things
     work, but it is doable.

     Patches to make it even easier to do are welcome.
     

When I start digging, I see that some of what is required is already there, 
with the --makefile-name=xx option.  

What is this flag for, and how does it differ from what I was talking about?
