System is:
Linux 3.13.0-29-generic x86_64
gcc version 4.8.2 (Ubuntu 4.8.2-19ubuntu1)
"test-lock" is fine (no core-dump) with clang version 3.3-16ubuntu1 ,
and also with fedora 15 with gcc 4.6.3 (based on off-list email from Pádraig ).
so, compiler problem?
