Ironic, indeed.
Do you know how it was missed the first time?

I suspect you cloned or updated gnulib in 2014, then made a change in a private copy, then on Jan 1 I ran 'make update-copyright' and pushed b9bfe78424b871f5b92e5ee9e7d21ef951a6801d, then this year you copied your private copy into your staging area without noticing that this changed the copyright date back -- an understandable mistake, since the change is about copyright dates so a cursory check with 'git diff' could miss the glitch. So when you committed the groff \(co fix in 06c61ed439c29bf0ff6261462afef6f84e772643 the date changed back.

By the way, the biggest hassle for me with 'make update-copyright' is this sort of thing in .texi files:

-Copyright @copyright{} 2004--2014 Free Software Foundation, Inc.
+Copyright @copyright{} 2004--2015 Free Software Foundation, Inc.

I have to make these changes by hand, I assume because the Perl script doesn't recognize "--" as part of a year range. I briefly looked into fixing this but my Perl is rusty.
