Hi. I have a (hopefully) small problem with an iPod of mine and I was
wondering whether you could give me some hints. Ok, here it goes:
I think I accidentally corrupted it's hard drive when I attempted to
mount it's hfs+ hard drive in `rw' mode (over firewire -- vanilla kernel
2.6.8.1). Now, it's unable to boot. I guess the partition table got
messed up - but that's a wild guess. Now, it constantly resets only to
show an icon with a folder and an exclamation mark at it's lower-right
corner.
Reading your instructions I forced the iPod in diskmode. I am able
to access the iPod's hard drive only with parted.
My question is the following:
Despite these problems, is diskmode sufficient (and would it be
a good idea) to:
- low-level format the entire hard-drive of my iPod.
- then, access it with fdisk/parted (you know - like an
external hard-drive)
- and create partitions and everything, according to your
instructions??
I'ld like to hear your opinion about this before I do anything,
cause I most afraid that if something goes wrong uppon formatting
I'll kill the iPod's hard-drive permanently. Thanks in advance.
P.S.1: The iPod is a third-generation one, with a 15Gb hard drive.
P.S.2: I (honestly) did everything I could to find a solution for this
problem without bothering anyone, but I just didn't make it.
I am sorry if I missed something - and thanks for your time in
advance. Please reply at your convenience.
