Hello,

Let me start by saying I'm losing more and more respect for Apple every day. I've had four iPods so far, so I was very surprised to learn about the stupid hash scheme on the new models. I'm probably preaching to the choir here. ;-)

Anyway... I downloaded the most recent version of gnupod to get around the hash, but my iPod tells me there are no songs are on the device.

After using gnupod_addsong.pl, I tried using mktunes:

sudo mktunes.pl -m /media/IPOD/
mktunes.pl 0.99.5 (C) Adrian Ulrich
> Searching iPod on /proc/bus/usb/devices
/usr/local/bin/mktunes.pl : Unable to open '/proc/bus/usb/devices' : No such file or directory
> Loading ArtworkDB...done
> Parsing XML document...
> 20 files parsed, assembling iTunesDB...
> Creating iPod playlists...
> iPod-GUID not detected. You can force the GUID using --fwguid
> Writing new iTunesShuffle DB
> Updating Sync-Status

You can now umount your iPod. [Files: 20]
 - May the iPod be with you!

That didn't go so well, so I tried specifying the serial number:

sudo mktunes.pl -m /media/IPOD/ --fwguid 8K739HEFY5N
mktunes.pl 0.99.5 (C) Adrian Ulrich
> Loading ArtworkDB...done
> Parsing XML document...
> 20 files parsed, assembling iTunesDB...
> Creating iPod playlists...
> Hashing database for iPod GUID '0x847391ef25700000'
> Writing new iTunesShuffle DB
> Updating Sync-Status

You can now umount your iPod. [Files: 20]
 - May the iPod be with you!

That seemed to work fine, but the iPod still reports that I have no music. I'm pretty sure that is the correct serial number - I can see it on the back of the iPod and Banshee reports the same.

Any suggestions?

Thanks,
Charles
