Sorry, I didn't see your email earlier.

0.99.2 sounds quite old to me ...

the fwguid has only been added in sept 2007:

So if your version of gnupod is older than you need to update it ...
updating may be a good idea anyway ..

PS: The newest generation of iPods (the ones presented in late 2008) are not
yet supported by any open source sofware (as far as i know). Apple changed
the way that iTunes signs the iTunesdb again in order to regain their
monolpoy on ipod managing software ...
