Details:

I believe we're doing some transformations in certain cases to make what is
supposed to be a horizontal menu into a vertical one, but what we end up with
is a menu arrangement that is nearly unusable.

I'm going to take out the code that does this or, at least, apply some
*minimal* transformations (like just moving Quit to the top leve menu) to
achieve a more acceptable result.
