Hi there,

I know a lot of users who would really like their browser to have native
JACK audio support (see jackaudio.org). Last year I managed to convince
Mozilla to accept a patch that improved the existing JACK audio backend
within Firefox to use a callback model instead of a synchronous one and
also made inclusion of the JACK code a compile time option.

Mozilla have never enabled the JACK code by refusing to `--enable-jack`
within their default builds. They have made it clear that they don't
want to support their users to use yet another audio backend for
mainstream firefox.

However, I would like to suggest that IceCat switch on --enable-jack at
compile time so that advanced audio users can route their browser audio
into other programs with ease. This would enable, eg, musicians to jam
live to streaming sites such as youtube and record their mixed jam
sessions into another program (such as Ardour).

Other use cases are such as, those who dislike the cludgey pulseaudio
system and still want audio from their browser (ALSA backend is going
away soon ?)

I hope you folks like my suggestion and for your convenience, I have
included a patch on savannah to switch it on if you decide to include it.

NB: Including the compile time flag does not force JACK-only audio, it
only uses jack if jackd server is running, otherwise it falls back to
default behaviour.

Cheers,
Damien
