I am working with that compiler, too. Good, comfortable environment, but
obviously not strict enough to stop me writing non-ANSI c++.
So I am now compiling also immediately on gcc when I've written new code.

Have you tried www.stlport.org?
Compiling that huge STL-library took 30 min but was easy in linux gcc
2.95.2.
