[bug-grep] changes in CVS

Dear coleagues,
  I should probably inform you what I have done in the CVS:

1) I have imported the changes from 2.5.1a
And yes, it's on ftp.gnu.org now.

2) I worked on dfa.c a bit.
I tried to sync with gawk, but with a very limited success.
I commited some trivial part of the diff, but a huge part remained.
I asked Arnold (the gawk maintainer) to identify his patches in it,
so I hope he will help us.

3) I removed the incomplete version of the gofast patch.

4) I fixed some .cvsignore's

5) After a bug report that CVS autogen.sh doesn't work, I made some fixes.
I removed support for legacy autoconf from autogen.sh.
The modernization of configure.{in,ac} is not done yet, I have made only
a few quick fixes to fix PACKAGE_* #defines.
