I understand how you feel.  And I don't use --color personally.

My first reaction to Charles' patch was to reject both the color enhancements
and --initial-tab.  But I took some time to think about it, asked a friend,
and finally decided to accept the patches.

But if we want people to use grep in everyday life, not only in scripts,
we have to allow some of these features.
We do want grep to be an interactive cmd-line tool, not only an element
of shell programming, right?
This code doesn't get in the way if the respective option is not specified.

A side note:
I'm very glad that Charles' is able to do such things as to search the term
database for certain capabilities.  I'm not interested in such things, I
don't like much color on my terminal, so I need some expert in this field.
