[bug #24703] "make check" failures in 2.5.3

Follow-up Comment #2, bug #24703 (project grep):

In my environment,  foad1.sh  did not fail when
 LC_ALL  was unset.

When  LC_ALL  was set to  C  , e.g. by adding


LC_ALL=C; export LC_ALL


to the top of foad1.sh, the  grep Word -o -i  tests failed again.
