Why would it make it slower. AFAICT, PCRE_MULTILINE *adds*
some overhead. It is really meant to be only about changing the
behaviour of ^ and $.
Not-PCRE_MULTILINE is the default about everywhere else
(including less, pcregrep, ssed -R).
Do you have any particular test-case in mind?
