groff 1.18 does not work for me |

Hello -
I have downloaded and installed groff 1.18 on a cluster of several
i686-pc-linux-gnu hosts; the software repository is on a single
nfs-mounted disk, on /usr/soft. The compiler is gcc 3.2.
After the installation, the 'man' command chokes on every man page:
address@hidden 5 $ man ldconfig
troff: error in loading shared libraries: libstdc++.so.5: cannot open
shared object file: No such file or directory
grotty: error in loading shared libraries: libstdc++.so.5: cannot open
shared object file: No such file or directory
Now, libstdc++.so.5 is in /usr/soft/lib, that in turn in in my
LD_LIBRARY_PATH:
address@hidden 6 $ echo $LD_LIBRARY_PATH
/usr/soft/lib:/usr/lib:/usr/local/lib:/usr/X11R6/lib:/usr/soft/root/lib
address@hidden 8 $ ls -l /usr/soft/lib/libstdc++.so.5*
lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root 18 Aug 19 13:12
/usr/soft/lib/libstdc++.so.5 -> libstdc++.so.5.0.0
-rwxr-xr-x 1 root root 3065602 Aug 19 13:12
/usr/soft/lib/libstdc++.so.5.0.0
Please, help! I need my man pages...
