grub load 2.4.4 kernel problem |

I have some OpenLinux2.4 and RedHat 6.2 installed in my box.
I use grub in OpenLinux2.4 to load the two parts.
A few days ago , I compiled the new kernel 2.4.4 in RedHat Linux
(with customed kernel configure),
and ready to restart.
I use some separate /boot fs.
the grub option:
root = (hd0,5)
kernel = /vmlinuz-2.4.4 root=/dev/hda7
when startup , I chose the new kernel .
Nothing happened! The screen flashed , then remain the load screen, all the
time. But I CAN telnet to that box, that means the box IS running.
It seems my screen is locked. I try alt-f1, ctl-alt-f1, ctl-alt-backspace,
no use.
What's the problem ? should I add some kernel param to start this kernel ?
