2.4.22? Do you mean 2.2.22?

Did you include the cciss module in your kernel? Or, alternately, if
you built it as a module, did you make a new initrd?

It looks like the grub-install bits to do the right thing with the
SmartArray broke again. Just to verify, what were the contents of your
/boot/grub/device.map?
