GRUB in a partition |

Hello!
Can somebody help me?
I'm a bit beginner using GRUB. I installed it in the MBR, and this worked
fine. But now I would like install it in a partition, because the MBR is
used by a diskmanager. I could install it in a partition, but when I tried
to boot up an OS, then I got errors, or the computer hangs.
The first thing, what I tried: win98 was in the first partition, and in the
second was GRUB, but it didn't worked. When I tried to hide GRUB's
partition, got the same result (also: chainloader +1 -root (hd0,0)-
or chainloader (hd0,0)/boot/grub/win98).
In the documentation I'm not able to find anything, that would be help.
If somebody has a good idea, please help.
