Hi—
I have been trying to go from FC4 to FC5. I set my computer to boot
from the CD drive first. I put in the disks (I have burned several) and
each time the Grub Stage2 comes up and diverts control from the CD drive
to the hard drive boot. What can I do to get my computer to boot from
the CD drive first?
1) You can try to burn correctly the FC5 disk to a cdrom.
To check if you've burned it correctly you can try just before trying to
boot from it to try to boot it from qemu with:
(/dev/cdrom is your cdrom device)
qemu -boot d -cdrom /dev/cdrom
If the cd does not boot in the qemu environment that means that you have
not burned it correctly.
2) You can download
http://adrian15.raulete.net/grub/tiki-download_file.php?fileId=58
this floppy image (To be "burned" into a floppy with dd after bunzip2ing)
and try to boot your cdrom with BOOT FROM CDROM option.
3) You can check if your bios battery has finished its life and you have
to replace it. (Once you've change the BOOT order have you power down
the machine... rebooted... and checked and that it is still there?).
