rescue mode only

hello,

yesterday i somehow felt like trying windows vista. it has obviously
overwritten my mbr but i thought it was not a problem. i booted back into
linux and installed grub 1.94. however, after a reboot, all i got was grub's
rescue mode.
i've tried "make install", "grub-install" and "setup (hd1,0)" and nothing
seems to work.

how can i fix this?
