Details:
Running Ubuntu 9.10 on HP nc6400
Grub 2 doesn't work with HP computers under ubuntu 9.10 (see Ubuntu bug
#441941) https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/441941
So I'm trying to install Grub in ububtu 9.10.
after downloading and unpacking grub 0.97, ./configure fails due to binutils
dependency - see below.
checking whether objcopy works for absolute addresses... no
configure: error: GRUB requires a working absolute objcopy; upgrade your
binutils
Ubuntu includes binutils 2.20 which clearly complies with the requirement for
greater than binutils 2.9.1
same problem with older version Grub 0.94.
Is there a way to compile Grub-Legacy or are there debs available somewhere.
(Note the Grub 0/\.97 on the Ubuntu 9.10 repository is some sort of hybrid
which also fails so that is not a solution.
