Follow-up Comment #3, bug #36004 (project grub):
I know this bug is closed, but I have a very similar problem with grub 2.00
provided by my distribution (Archlinux). I have a RAID1 array on an Intel
controller (fakeraid) and I can't run grub-install to write grub to the of the
array, the command fails with the error
Path `/boot/grub' is not readable by GRUB on boot. Installation is impossible.
Aborting.
I don't have any "fancy" setup, just the array and no separate /boot
partition.
Let me know if I can provide additional feedback or run other tests.
Thanks.
