Details:
This is a feature request to utilize busybox code to further extend the
available commands in grub2. In particular, I have the 'sed' command in mind,
but many of the commands would be useful additions to grub's scripting/shell
support.
Also relevant is [bug #38893] Scripting -- Add command output capture support.
Commands such as sed would be useful with the ability to capture command
output to a variable.
To be honest, I have no familiarity with either the Grub2 or Busybox code
bases, so I'm not sure if this is a reasonable request or not. I realize grub
is not meant to be a full-featured operating system in and of itself, but the
more capabilities/commands available in the grub shell, the better.
