Follow-up Comment #3, bug #38309 (project grub):
Hi today I had the same error:
Ubuntu 12.04 64bit installed and after start GNU Grub freezes and I'm unable
to use my keyboard to select an entry.
I tried to reinstall Grub with a Live CD and chroot ... didn't work but I
found the error!!!
I'm always switching of the power of my computer manually. My BIOS battery
seems to be empty and some BIOS configurations were lost.
I had to enable the "USB legacy support" for the USB keyboard on integrated
chipset (in the BIOS menu), which was disabled. An now on the next start I'm
able to use my keyboard and start my Ubuntu as usual.
Hope this helps and saves you some time I took me about 2 hours to find out...
