Here is a test release of the next version of GNU Typist:

    ftp://alpha.gnu.org/gnu/gtypist/gtypist-2.9beta1.tar.gz

If anyone on this list wants to help us test it, we'd be very grateful!

Specifically, we have added support for UTF-8 in this release. This
affects all user input (from the keyboard) and all output (to the
terminal). In particular, we need people who have their machines set
up use other locales to check that gtypist accepts keyboard input
correctly and displays the right stuff to a UTF-8 terminal.

We've also added a new set of typing courses for the Colemak keyboard
layout. If anyone uses Colemak and fancies trying out the lessons,
we'd be grateful to hear if there are any problems with them.

Changes in 2.9 will be:
    - Full UTF-8 support, by Felix Natter <address@hidden>
    - New Colemak typing lessons, by Tim Marston <address@hidden>
    - New Spanish manual from smc <address@hidden>
    - Tracking of personal best scores, by Tim Marston
      <address@hidden>
    - We are dropping support for the DJGPP compiler (DOS), although
      the MinGW GCC compiler is still supported.

Thanks, and happy typing!
