That's the case I were thinking about. The potential problems with
lookup of . and .. applying the translator setting matter only at the
boundaries between file servers, at the nodes where translators are
attached.
Even if a translator provides an huge directory tree, we usually talk
about only a sinlg "underlying node", which is the node on which the
translator is attached to a parent file system.
