I ran into a strange problem today when running x under the hurd.
I noticed that I was not able to load some programs under X as a user.
At first I thought that this was a user vs root permissions problem
because I hadn't seen this under the root login.
But I found out by ldd'ing some of the programs and verifying that the
LD_LIBRARY_PATH was correctly configured to point to /X11R6/lib for
the user account that ldd _failed_ to find libX11.so even with the
correct LD_LIBRARY_PATH.
I had been running screen previously but was trying to identify the
reason (assuming configuration problems) for some lock ups when using
X.
I innocently tried running screen and starting X and was able to
execute these programs (rxvt for example.)
then running ldd successfully reported the libraries.
This was reproducible.
No screen, no libX11.
with screen, -> libX11. reported found.
