I just realized that I didn't include a time in the '' quoted portion.
This fails with a legal time string in the quotes.
I've been off line for a bit so didn't notice it before
Apologies, for the mistake.
ps: I had traced this as far as the stime call in libc but didn't
have a libc with debugging symbols installed at the time.
