Luckily, glibc keeps a build log for you under debian/, the exact name
of which I do not know by heart.

It's unclear what exactly you mean with `pain', so it is difficult to
suggest alternatives.
Pain in the sense it takes a hell lot of time to build on my machine. It took around 6-7 hours or so to build for the first time, that too it did not complete. Also I did not get the logs. I will send in next mail. I think its same as Zhengda reported on IRC.
