I did send a reply before, but it seems to have gone astray somehow.

I'm afraid I cannot help you much as I don't have a C compiler on any w32 
machine, nor have knowledge of those compilers.

- To simplify things and get rid of some of your problems you can disable
the internationalisation code by making sure that ENABLE_NLS is not defined.

- I too have noticed the duplication of the io.h name and intend to rename the 
local one.
