This is correct. I myself resolved the identical error in Debian's
package linux-ftpd with an almost identical patching. It is the common
origin in netkit-ftpd that is the cause. The variation uses
#ifdef __STDC__
va_start(ap, fmt);
#else
va_start(ap);
#end
in two passages.
