Follow-up Comment #1, bug #40869 (project kawa):

If you grep though kawa/lang/*Syntax*.java for the string DEBUGGING you'll see
things can be uncommented to get debugging output.  If you want to try to
debug it yourself, you might find this link a useful (if slightly dated)
