I´m trying to run Lilypond 1.7.29 on MS 98. When I click on the CYGWIN
icon, I get the MS-DOS window with address@hidden
<mailto:address@hidden> $ and I´m afraid I don´t know what to do
with that. (I don´t yet have much experience with these kinds of
programs.) Am I doing something wrong?
Nothing indicates you are doing something wrong. You really should start
reading the documentation first... it can be found either on your system
or online at http://www.lilypond.org , follow the link to
"Documentation" (use documentation for version 1.8.0 if you look online).
In short: you will need to
1. start a text editor,
2. type in your music,
3. save it as somefilename.ly
4. then at the prompt of the "MS-DOS" window (in fact it is a "bash"
window, but it doesn't matter right now) you will need to type a command
like
ly2dvi -P somefilename.ly
to get a .pdf file with music.
Best regards,
Stefaan.
