Aha! This produces the behavior you want: \version "2.9.7" \book{ \score { \new Staff { c4 c4 } } \header { title = "tit" tagline = "tag" } }IMO, if there's only one \score in the piece, then the \header{} should be considered to be part of \book, not \score. But at least I know what's happening now...
