New issue 1319 by v.villenave: Enhancement: an engraver for other-hand
brackets

This feature has been requested several times in the past[0]:
sometimes in piano music, one hand has to play only one note (or a small
group of notes) printed in the staff usually played by the other hand. In
such cases, a bracket is usually printed on the left of the notehead,
pointing either upwards or downwards, and possibly with a text indication
such as "m.s."/"m.d.".
Robin and I have both been trying to implement it: Robin's attempt is a
hack around arpeggio objects[1], mine around Fingerings[2]. Robin's takes a
string argument through which anything can be tweaked, whilst mine should
ideally be automatically computed (bracket's direction, length, etc.).
We've independently come to the same conclusion: what's really needed is a
dedicated engraver, even if it probably could be implemented using Scheme
only. However, as Robin told me, "Note that lilypond doesn't always combine
fingering and arpeggios properly; having an additional grob type will make
this worse."
