It's not likely worth stopping the countdown for that reason alone, but here is _another_ proposal for a #f-defaulting option: restrainOpenStrings. That feels better than excludeOpenStrings since it is somewhat closer to implying that they are only cut back to the level of the fingered strings, not excluded.
