thanks for the patch.
However, if you want the patch to be reviewed and committed to the
repository, you should follow the procedure described in the Contributor
Guide:
http://lilypond.org/doc/v2.17/Documentation/contributor/index
We should first open an issue on the Google tracker, but I don't know if
there's an issue already for this problem. Probably not, but I see a lot of
open issues related to musicxml2ly.
BTW, do you know that there is a fork of musicxml2ly?

It's a "friendy" fork, created to develop philomelos.net
I read that the developer don't have time to include the features of the
fork inside lilypond.. could you be interested in this job?
