Currently mailutils contains more than 600 sources. Each of us has
modified at least half of them, so if we're to list the files modified
by each author (as maintain.info suggests) this will inflate the file
AUTHORS to an incredible size. And I doubt that this will improve
its readability.
I agree. So don't do that. When there are principal maintainers who
basically maintain the whole package, then just say "all files".
They would certainly need to be contacted about a legal problem.
The main point is to list the occasional contributors, who have made
legally significant changes to only one or a few files. That way, if
there is a legal problem, the authors will be known.
It'd be best to ask rms for questions and clarifications. I didn't make
up the rule or know the details of why it's needed.
