This isn't really a "bug report," merely a call for help/clarification
When trying to use the portage package for mailutils with gentoo, I'm
getting this failure:
i686-pc-linux-gnu-gcc -O2 -march=i686 -pipe -o .libs/guimb main.o
collect.o util.o ../libmu_scm/.libs/libmu_scm.so
../mailbox/mbox/.libs/libmu_mbox.so ../mailbox/imap/.libs/libmu_imap.so
../mailbox/pop/.libs/libmu_pop.so ../mailbox/nntp/.libs/libmu_nntp.so
../mailbox/mh/.libs/libmu_mh.so
../mailbox/maildir/.libs/libmu_maildir.so ../mailbox/.libs/libmailbox.so
../lib/.libs/libmailutils.al ../auth/.libs/libmuauth.so -lpam
/usr/lib/libguile.so /usr/lib/libgmp.so -lm /usr/lib/libltdl.so -ldl
-lcrypt -lresolv -lpthread
../libmu_scm/.libs/libmu_scm.so: undefined reference to `SCM_ROCHARS'
../libmu_scm/.libs/libmu_scm.so: undefined reference to
`SCM_VALIDATE_ROSTRING'
../libmu_scm/.libs/libmu_scm.so: undefined reference to `SCM_SUBSTRP'
../libmu_scm/.libs/libmu_scm.so: undefined reference to `SCM_ROLENGTH'
collect2: ld returned 1 exit status
This seems to be related to some curses references not being resolved.
The curses package has been installed before successfully (revision
5.6-r2, which might just be the portage revision - I don't know)
In a gentoo mailing list there is an entry addressing this issue. It
states that suppressing the patches that are being prescribed in the
mailutils emerge file will do the trick.
The patches are:
epatch ${FILESDIR}/${P}-mh-Makefile.in.patch
epatch ${FILESDIR}/${PN}-IDEF0954-IDEF0955.patch
epatch ${FILESDIR}/${PN}-IDEF0956.patch
epatch ${FILESDIR}/${PN}-IDEF0957.patch
epatch ${FILESDIR}/${PN}-getline.diff
epatch ${FILESDIR}/${PN}-SQLinjection.patch
epatch ${FILESDIR}/${P}-imap4d-format-string.patch
epatch ${FILESDIR}/${P}-imap4d-gcc4.0-ftbfs.patch
None of these patch files contain the string "SCM"
Does anyone know who maintains the portage package?
What is the appropriate way to upgrade/downgrade curses/mailutils?
I'd be willing to do the legwork, I just want to make sure that I'm
doing it right....
