gmake3.78.1 fails :-(

Hi,

I'm trying to build MAD(*1) and faced an incident with gmake-3.78.1.

(*1)
http://www.mars.org/home/rob/proj/mpeg/

If I used gmake-3.77, and building MAD binary is terminated correctly.
But, with gmake-3.78.1, building MAD is asserted in read_makefile().
