In Info "5.2 Command Execution", be sure the best way of all to avoid
newline accidents:
qz:
        perl -we 'print 1$(\
        )23'
Works in both make of today and yesterday at least.

Also this: "You may split a long line by inserting a backslash followed
by a newline, but this is not required, as `make' places no limit on
the length of a line in a makefile." needs a reference link to "5.2
Command Execution" added.
