That one is entirely my fault, I was rushing to ensure mescc-tools could
be built by M2-Planet (a version that didn't support character escapes)
and I never reverted that change once M2-Planet and cc_x86 gained
support for them.

I have revised your patches slightly and have merged them into master.
Thank you for taking the time to help make mescc-tools better ^_^
