Hi Giuseppe,
Thanks for your fast response :)
I am glad that you are interested to develop the GUI application for GNU
MyServer. I think english is not the first language for many people
here, so it is not a problem and sorry in advance for my mistakes :)
I thought that my language might be a problem for you, but it is nice
to see that you understand me without problems.
Do you think you can learn and use Python for it? IMHO, the initial
cost to learn it will be saved later at implementing things. Not that I
really care and have sleepless night because of it, but Windows
portability is a good thing to have, Python should make it easier.
Of course, I can learn and use Python for this project. It will be
something new for me. Two years ago I had similar problem with project
written in Tcl and it was a great joy and satisfaction for me to learn
this language and make working project using it.
It will be great to use something new, but we must have in mind that
this will be more risky for me than using language that I have already
known.
On the subversion repository (in the misc/ directory) there
is already an initial implementation for a GUI written in PyGTK, you can
start by looking at it.
I made checkout and I will see, if I can "bite" it.
Have you already developed any GUI application? If so, can you send me
some screenshot by a private e-mail? Which Operating System do you use?
Yes, I made two **small** projects - one for company that take me for
student practice (using C++ and WinAPI) and another one for student
project (in Java). I will send you some links to screenshots as soon as
possible. I prefer to use GNU/Linux distributions like Debian or Ubuntu
(it works on my main computer), but I also have access to MS Windows XP.
The answer to some your questions is given directly by Google :) The
GSOC project must be done individually, at the end of GSOC you will need
to show what you coded and submit to them; it must be completed for the
end of August, so I suggest you to plan your schedule keeping it in
mind, thought you can use September to write some documentation or do
minor stuff for your project.
Yes, I see. Sorry for trouble :)
The real submission of your idea will be done in a more formal way later
and it is very important to provide a detailed schedule for your
activity, still you have some time to look at the current GUI status.
I will think about schedule and adjust my private plans to it. Also,
I will make use of that "free time" to read something on Python and
PyGTK and take a look at current GUI code.
