[bug-obsolete-packages] ppc64 compilation error, but general question

Greetings,

A colleague had a compilation error of fileutils 4.1 on a Linux PPC
64 bit machine. When the included config.guess is replaced with the
latest,

http://cvs.savannah.gnu.org/viewvc/*checkout*/config/config/config.guess

then he does not get the error. So I would like to ask if it is safe
to simply automatically overwrite the included with the latest? or
should the included be updated?
