[bug-obsolete-packages] strange error message when piping output from od

[FischerR.External]

Occasionally, when I do a

        od -cx FILENAME | head

I get on stderr (along with the correct output) the error message

od: standard output
od: write error: Invalid argument

It does not happen with *every* file, but it is reproducible in
that if it occurs with some file, it consistently occurs with 
this file.
