Hello!
After mounting a Samba 3.x share (UTF-8 mount option) and accessing a Ubuntu
server (everything set to UTF-8) (2.6.24-26-server #1 SMP Tue Dec 1 19:19:20 UTC
2009 i686 GNU/Linux) from a Xubuntu 8.04 client (system wide UTF-8 usage here
too) I ecperienced something strange.
command issued:
- ---------------
address@hidden:/mnt/lan/AQUINA/Upload (1F4)/Music/Die Toten Hosen$ mv -v ./"Die
Toten Hosen - Was Zählt.mp3" ./"Die Toten Hosen - Was Zaehlt.mp3"
„./Die Toten Hosen - Was Zählt.mp3“ -> „./Die Toten Hosen - Was Zaehlt.mp3“
mv: Verschieben von „./Die Toten Hosen - Was Zählt.mp3“ nach „./Die Toten Hosen
- - Was Zaehlt.mp3“ nicht möglich: Not a directory
ls -slaphn of directory:
- ---------------
0 drwxr-x--- 2 1000 1000 0 2010-01-01 03:46 ./
0 drwxr-x--- 274 1000 1000 0 2009-12-10 03:55 ../
4,0M -rwxr-x--- 1 1000 1000 3,2M 2005-04-18 01:48 Die Toten Hosen - Alles Aus
Liebe.mp3
4,0M -rwxr-x--- 1 1000 1000 3,3M 2005-04-16 21:46 Die Toten Hosen - Bonnie &
Clyde.mp3
5,0M -rwxr-x--- 1 1000 1000 4,3M 2002-01-29 22:00 Die Toten Hosen - Was
Zählt.mp3
It seems like it's an encoding problem, but I checked everything on the server
with convmv. The file with the umlaut "Die Toten Hosen - Was Zählt.mp3" is
indeed a file and not a directory! The files have UTF-8 encoded filenames. Could
this be a bug within the mv program? It happens (wehnever) I try to rename a
file with umlauts to one without. A further strange thing I noticed is that the
problem doesn't occour when renaming a file with umlauts to one withoud located
in the servers relative root (e.g. "/mnt/lan/AQUINA/Upload (1F4)" instead of
"/mnt/lan/AQUINA/Upload (1F4)/Music/Die Toten Hosen").
